Kylian MBAPPE left PSG for Real Madrid because of a promise made to his father

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly not renewing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and is said to be moving to Real Madrid at the end of the current season to fulfill his father’s wish.

All signs indicate that French player Mbappe will join Los Blancos, where he, alongside Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, will form a strong attacking lineup.

In an interview with Fabrizio Romano, the 25-year-old player discussed his ‘new chapter’ and expressed his excitement to ‘explore new things’. The 2018 World Cup champion also mentioned that his father wants him to leave a mark in Ligue 1 before departing.

Although Mbappe hasn’t disclosed his destination, most European media outlets suggest that the French superstar is only negotiating with Real Madrid. ‘My next chapter will be very exciting. I will explore new things, and that makes me very happy. My father wants me to leave a mark in Ligue 1 before departing. It has been a long journey, and I am very happy to have done that.’

Mbappe won the Ligue 1 championship before parting ways.

Kylian Mbappe was signed by PSG from Monaco in 2018 for a transfer fee of $194 million. In his 7 years with the largest club in France, he scored 256 goals and provided 108 assists in 307 appearances. Mbappe also won six Ligue 1 titles, three French Super Cups, and two French League Cups.

On May 10th, PSG’s number 10 officially announced his departure from the club. In a video posted on his social media, Kylian Mbappe said: “I want to talk to you. I always said I would speak when needed, and now I think it’s time to speak to you about this season and my last with PSG. I have decided not to extend my contract. This adventure will end in a few weeks.”

It will be interesting to see if Mbappe leaves PSG on a free transfer or not, as he promised President Nasser Al-Khelaifi he would never leave the French club without a transfer agreement as a form of compensation for the club. In August 2021, PSG rejected a £188 million bid for the beloved striker when he was offered a three-year contract extension.

Mbappe promised PSG President he would not leave for free.

Afterward, facing the risk of losing their star player, PSG accepted a £256 million offer from the wealthy Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal in 2023, with Mbappe turning down that proposal.

According to various sources, Mbappe is expected to request his new club to compensate PSG with a transfer fee rather than leaving on a free transfer. Mbappe’s departure will undoubtedly provide PSG with enough financial resources to make significant investments in signing big-name stars during the upcoming summer transfer window. If he joins Real Madrid, the Spanish club will also provide Mbappe with new motivation to challenge for the Champions League and prove himself in a new competition against rival clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Mbappe will become the last player to leave PSG’s famous attacking trio, including Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe. Before them, Messi and Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in the summers of 2021 and 2017, respectively. The trio scored 143 goals and provided 96 assists in two seasons for the French club. However, they couldn’t secure the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy that PSG desires.
