The player sales that the Gunners have made have not been very successful, but there are still some special cases.
Alex Iwobi (30.4 million euros)
This is one of the promising talents from the Hale End academy and has earned significant trust from Arsene Wenger.
However, the arrival of Unai Emery saw Alexander Iwobi becoming surplus to requirements at the Emirates. After adding the marquee signing Nicolas Pepe to the squad, the Spanish manager increasingly overlooked the legacy left by Wenger.
Therefore, he was sold to Everton in 2019 for a transfer fee of 30.4 million euros. At the current time, Iwobi still holds an important role in the squad of the Merseyside club. He has managed to score 6 goals and provide 2 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
Balogun Folarin (30 million euros)
Balogun signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in 2020 and spent three years with the first team, but only made two appearances in the Premier League and failed to score any goals. He was then loaned out to Middlesbrough and Reims, where he managed to build his reputation.
During his loan spell in Ligue 1, Balogun made a strong impression by scoring 21 goals. That performance attracted interest from top clubs in the French league.
Despite facing considerable competition, AS Monaco eventually successfully secured the 22-year-old forward’s signature last summer, helping Arsenal bolster their coffers with a €30 million transfer fee.
Balogun is currently having a reasonably decent season in his new colors, contributing to 14 goals so far.
Joe Willock (29.4 million euros)
Joe Willock emerged as one of the promising young talents capable of revitalizing Arsenal. He quickly rose to the first team and proved himself as a key player.
Over the span of four years with the Gunners from 2017 to 2021, Joe Willock played under the guidance of three different managers—discovered by Arsene Wenger, progressed during Unai Emery’s tenure, and ultimately sold by Mikel Arteta.
Willock initially impressed during his loan spell at Newcastle before the Magpies made his move permanent in 2021 for a fee of €29.4 million.
Despite being highly regarded, it seems Arteta had other quality options for the midfield without the need for his services.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (24.2 million euros)
The English star was signed by Arsenal from Southampton for 13.8 million euros. Here, he was developed towards a versatile star who can take on many positions on the field.
However, Oxlade-Chamberlain was often injured during his time playing for the Gunners. So when Liverpool wanted to recruit the 30-year-old midfielder, Arsenal immediately sold him for 38 million euros in 2017.
Wojciech Szczesny (15.9 million euros)
Wojciech Szczęsny is currently regarded as one of the world’s finest goalkeepers, showcasing a series of outstanding performances while donning the Bianconeri jersey. However, it was at Arsenal where he truly had the opportunity to make a name for himself.
Szczęsny was recruited from Legia Warsaw for a mere 50,000 euros. Subsequently, he honed his skills in the youth team at Hale End before ascending to the first-team goalkeeper position. He played for Arsenal for 8 years, making 132 appearances in the Premier League under Arsène Wenger’s guidance.
Then, in 2017, Juventus spent money to bring him to the Allianz Stadium.
