Footage shows Real Madrid star Antonio Rudiger telling Andriy Lunin where to dive before vital penalty save in Champions League win against Manchester City… and did Kepa help teammate call Bernardo Silva’s bluff?
RECAP: In the Champions League, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City on penalties. Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva both had penalty saves that Andriy Lunin made that were vital. OLIVER HOLT on why Arsenal and Liverpool should be disappointed by City’s loss
Real Madrid defeated Manchester City on Wednesday night thanks in large part to a crucial stop from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who looked to have been instructed by Antonio Rudiger which way Mateo Kovacic would shoot his penalty.
The goalkeeper’s right, on Rudiger’s left, is seen furiously pointed to in the minutes before his former Chelsea teammate converted the penalty kick.
Lunin complied, lowering himself to his right in order to block Kovacic’s attempt. That turned out to be the deciding factor as the 14-time European champions advanced to the semifinals following a 1-1, 120-minute second leg on Wednesday.
Following Lunin’s heroics, Luka Modric was spotted striking Rudiger, who let out a furious celebration before winning the game-winning spot-kick moments later.
After Eduardo Silva’s stop of Modric’s penalty, which went directly into Lunin’s hands, Bernardo Silva missed with a terrible attempt, giving Manchester City the lead in the shootout.

After his old Chelsea teammate was stopped from 12 yards, Rudiger let out a loud celebration.
Following the match, there was a lot of conjecture on whether Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Real Madrid backup goalkeeper, had contributed by telling Lunin that Silva would clip his spot-kick straight down the middle.
Supporters with keen eyes discovered video of Silva beating Kepa with almost the exact same penalty when he was a Chelsea player.
That day, in the 2019 Carabao Cup final, Silva casually clipped his effort into the net, as the goalie dove to his right.
However, Lunin remained still as Silva attempted the identical maneuver this time, just minutes after it was observed that the two goalkeepers were having a lengthy chat.

Real Madrid advanced to the semifinals as Rudiger scored the game-winning penalty.
Later on, Lunin disclosed that the choice to remain still had been made prior to the gunfight.
“We chose to stay in the middle, so I had to take a chance with one of the kicks, and thankfully it worked out in our favor,” Lunin remarked.
We endured a great deal of misery throughout this away Champions League match, but I’m incredibly appreciative of the team for their perseverance. I’m not sure I could run as fast as my teammates did today.
Madrid scored their final four spot-kicks to win the shootout and go to the semifinals, and that save proved to be the game-changing moment.
