The President of France wants Mbappe to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics

President Emmanuel Macron hopes that Kylian Mbappe will represent France in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, if Mbappe agrees, he will face an extremely exhausting new season.

This summer, Mbappe, as the captain of the French national team, will surely lead his team to Germany to compete in the UEFA EURO 2024. This is a tournament Mbappe eagerly wants to win after reaching the top of the world in 2018.

Additionally, Mbappe also desires to participate in the Olympics held in his homeland, but he acknowledges that the decision lies with his club’s coach: “My coach is the one who decides. I would be very happy to participate in the Olympics, but if the coach doesn’t want that, I will support that decision. I don’t think it will take much time to make this decision.”

The issue lies in which club Mbappe currently plays for. He only has a contract with PSG until the end of the 2023/24 season, and he confirmed that he will leave. The next likely destination for Mbappe is Real Madrid, although they have not made any official statements yet. However, if Mbappe does join Real, they might not agree to let him participate in the Olympics after the EURO tournament.

Can Mbappe participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Because the Olympics aren’t part of FIFA’s system, clubs aren’t obligated to release players. Everything depends on negotiations between parties. Despite this understanding, French President Emmanuel Macron still hopes that Real Madrid or Mbappe’s new club will allow the French national team’s top star to participate in the Paris Olympics.

Macron also expressed his commitment to ensuring that France’s Olympic team has a competitive squad to contend for the prestigious gold medal in football at the event hosted in their homeland.

Speaking on RMC Sport, President Macron said, “We will do everything to have a competitive squad for the men’s football gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. I trust French and European clubs, I’m sure you understand what I mean. We’ll have the EURO before the Olympics, and that’s the issue. But I think clubs must play their role if they want the Olympic Games to be a great competition.”

When asked if he was referring to Real Madrid, Macron chuckled and said, “Exactly, that’s what I want. I haven’t discussed this with Mbappe yet. But I hope his club specifically and other clubs will allow it.”
