Bayern Munich is reportedly considering re-inviting Julian Nagelsmann, whom they sacked last year, after Zinedine Zidane turned down the hot seat at the Allianz Arena.
According to information from reputable journalist Christian Falk, Bayern Munich is considering re-inviting Julian Nagelsmann to take charge of the team, after abruptly dismissing the young head coach in March last year, to replace him with Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern unexpectedly sacked Nagelsmann in March last year to replace him with Thomas Tuchel and are now reportedly considering re-inviting the 36-year-old coach.
“At that time, despite the fact that the Bavarians were still winning convincingly and progressing in the Champions League, and had only temporarily been surpassed by Dortmund in the Bundesliga by just over 1 point, Nagelsmann surprisingly lost his job. Behind-the-scenes reports suggested that the 36-year-old coach no longer had the support of the players.
However, the sudden replacement with Thomas Tuchel did not bring about a bright new era at the Allianz Arena, becoming extremely poor in this campaign. That’s why Thomas Tuchel soon confirmed his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
For the first time since 2002, after 11 consecutive seasons of Bundesliga domination, Bayern Munich was dethroned by Leverkusen, becoming the new champions of the league. Thomas Tuchel’s team was also eliminated from the DFB-Pokal early on, as early as November last year.
Zidane is sought after by Bayern for a ‘rescue’, but the former Real Madrid coach seems to be aiming for a job at Juventus.
Bayern only has the Champions League left to salvage their trophyless season, with a welcoming match against Arsenal after a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
According to The Sun, Bayern has been actively seeking a new manager. Initially, the club targeted Xabi Alonso as their top candidate, but the Spanish coach chose to remain with Leverkusen.
The next name contacted by the Bavarians was Zinedine Zidane, and they attempted to persuade the French football legend.
However, sources say that Zidane has turned down Bayern Munich. Zidane has been expected to return to coaching since leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, but it seems he has his sights set on a historic return – Juventus!
For this reason, Bayern Munich is reportedly not hesitant to re-invite Julian Nagelsmann, who will be out of contract with the German national team after EURO 2024 (at the end of July) if the head coach does not sign a new deal with the German FA.
