Matthijs de Ligt was easily bypassed by Gabriel Jesus in the situation where Leandro Trossard equalized 2-2 for the home team.
On the evening of April 9th, Arsenal hosted Bayern at home in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals 2023/24 season. Saka opened the scoring early for the Gunners, but Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane scored two consecutive goals, helping the Bavarians lead again with a score of 2-1. It wasn’t until the 76th minute that Arsenal found the equalizer.
Substitutes Jesus and Leandro Trossard combined to bring the equalizer for the Gunners. Jesus calmly eliminated defender Matthijs de Ligt inside the box, then released the ball conveniently for Trossard to take a fierce shot that Manuel Neuer couldn’t stop.
Jesus made De Ligt fall flat on the pitch.
Trossard ran up and scored
The slow-motion replay revealed that De Ligt was easily eliminated, with just a small movement from Gabriel Jesus causing the Dutch defender to fall flat on the pitch. Fans quickly mocked the former Ajax player on social media.
One person wrote: “Jesus effortlessly got rid of De Ligt, I wonder if he’s worth 75 million euros?” Another continued: “De Ligt looks like an amateur defender, he was turned into a clown by Jesus with just a small movement.” A third commenter remarked: “Jesus turned De Ligt into the worst player of the match.”
De Ligt and Dier were the center-backs used by Thomas Tuchel against Arsenal. English international Dier moved to Germany in the January transfer window from Tottenham. He has made 12 appearances for Bayern since joining the German club.
