Harry Kane and the Desire to Break the Curse

If Bayern cannot overcome Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, striker Harry Kane will continue to confront the haunting absence of titles in his career.

Looking at Harry Kane’s statistical numbers, surely everyone would think that this player has won many titles. At least five, maybe ten, or even more. Because his goal-scoring and playmaking abilities are the driving force behind all great teams. There are very few players with that capability, so such superstars often dominate with their teams for a certain period.

But instead, Kane has never won any cups, neither at the club level nor with the national team. That’s really hard to explain, and people wonder if Harry Kane might be under the curse of not being able to win?

Perhaps because he believed he was under that curse, Kane left Tottenham to join Bayern, the team that has won the Bundesliga for 11 consecutive seasons and is led by Thomas Tuchel, a coach who has won the Champions League.

However, the Bavarian team quickly stumbled in the national cup, and their chances of winning the Bundesliga are almost gone as they trail Leverkusen by 16 points. It’s not Kane’s fault, as he has scored 38 goals in 37 matches for the club and is leading in the race for the European Golden Boot.

If Bayern cannot overcome Arsenal in the two legs of the Champions League quarter-finals, Kane will continue to face the haunting absence of titles. Today at the Emirates, the 30-year-old superstar remains Bayern’s biggest hope, especially since he has scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists in 19 meetings with Arsenal in the past nine years.

While Kane aims to break the curse of over 15 years without a title, Arsenal also doesn’t want to miss the opportunity as they reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 15 years. The last time these two teams met in the Champions League, Bayern won 5-1 over two legs in the round of 16. The defending champions don’t need a repeat of such a big score, but they need Kane to shine against their familiar opponent to avoid a disappointing season on all fronts.
