Latest Arsenal injury news with Mikel Arteta receiving both a boost and scare ahead of the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich
Bukayo Saka returned from injury in Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Brighton on Saturday
Mikel Arteta witnessed a relief in Arsenal’s injury concerns following their Premier League triumph against Brighton. Throughout the season, the Gunners have grappled with fitness issues and crucial player absences, but signs of improvement emerge just as the final stretch of the season approaches.
Although Bukayo Saka was absent from the squad that secured victory against Luton Town on Wednesday, he returned to the starting lineup on the south coast. The English talent made his mark by scoring in the 3-0 win, although he was substituted just after the hour mark, presumably with Arteta considering the looming Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich.
While having the luxury of resting all key players would be ideal, both William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes remain indispensable. Gabriel’s injury scare during Saturday’s match, where he went down after an impact, undoubtedly stirred anxiety among Arsenal supporters.
With that said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the European clash against Bayern:
Bukayo Saka
Injury: Muscular.
Having missed the match against Luton Town, Saka returned to the starting lineup for Arsenal’s journey to Brighton. Making an immediate impact upon his return, Saka scored to put Arsenal in the lead before being substituted off in the 64th minute.
What Arteta has said: “Yes, he is fine.”
Potential return date: Returned.
Gabriel Magalhaes
Shortly before halftime, Gabriel Magalhaes was brought down after Danny Welbeck inadvertently made contact while attempting to block a clearance. The Brazilian defender received treatment from Arsenal’s physiotherapists but managed to continue playing, completing the full 90 minutes.
Injury: Unknown.
Potential return date: Bayern Munich (H) – Tuesday, April 9.
Jurrien Timber
Injury: Knee
The defender has been on the road to recovery since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in August, during the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. His sole appearance since then was in the Community Shield against Manchester City.
Timber has been participating in team training sessions since before the break. Although Arteta expressed hope for his return this season, Timber was not included in the squad to face Brighton.
What Arteta has said: “He’s doing very well. He’s back training, he’s not far off, the thing is that last step, he hasn’t played any minutes.
“Does he need a game with the Under-21s? Does he need two games? He’s constantly training with us to see how long that’s going to take him in that last part which is tricky and sometimes takes a while. Hopefully [he’s back] as quick as possible.
“I think he’s got a good chance [of playing again this season]. I don’t know a percentage but he’s got a good chance and he’s going to push it as far as he can.”
Potential return date: Unknown.
