Kai Havertz had one of his best performances in an Arsenal shirt when he helped the home team defeat Brighton 3-0 in the early morning of April 7.
In Matchweek 31 of the English Premier League, at the Amex Stadium, Arsenal didn’t encounter much difficulty in defeating Brighton. The home team is facing a comprehensive crisis both in terms of squad depth and form. Therefore, it’s not hard to understand why they were outmatched by an Arsenal side in fine form.
Havertz was the standout player in this match. The impressive performances of the German international in the false nine role over the past month pushed Gabriel Jesus out wide as the Brazilian star returned to the starting lineup.
Havertz played expansively, creating good link-up play for Arsenal’s lines, and directly contributed to two goals for the away team. He scored to make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, following a cross from Jorginho.
In the 86th minute, Havertz once again assisted Trossard for the decisive goal, sealing a 3-0 victory. Jesus also performed well against Brighton despite lacking luck in scoring.
The Brazilian forward mainly stirred things up on the left flank, earning a penalty in the 33rd minute by causing a foul from a Brighton defender. From the 11-meter spot, Bukayo Saka scored the opening goal.
Arsenal simply overwhelmed Brighton, a team no longer the “underdog” of the Premier League. The expected goals (xG) metric for the away team in this match reached 2.55, with a total of 20 shot attempts (7 on target).
Conversely, Brighton only had 0.38 xG with just 2 shots on target. The “Seagulls” attack continued to perform poorly. In their last 9 matches across all competitions, Brighton’s strikers have only managed to score 4 goals.
The defeat to Arsenal sees Brighton drop to 10th place in the Premier League table. The goal of qualifying for European competition next season becomes distant for the home team. Meanwhile, Arsenal continues to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League with 71 points after 31 matches, ahead of Liverpool (70 points after 30 matches).
